BY: MÁRIO FELICIANO
Mário Feliciano began plumbing the typographic depths in the early 1990s, while designing for several magazines, including 'SurfPortugal'. During his initial rounds of experimentation he became progressively captivated by the historical aspects of typography, especially as they pertain to Portugal and its written language. By 1997 had published a number of his designs, and was the Portuguese delegate for ATypI; but by this point his involvement in type consisted of pure research and investigation. In 1999 Adobe published Mário's whimsical Strumph family, which he had designed five years prior; and he became the Portuguese agent for The Enschedé Font Foundry. In recent years, he has designed several proprietary typefaces while continuing his research, and has begun the foundation for the much anticipated Feliciano Type Foundry. When not working, Mário can be found surfing, golfing, or practicing yoga in and about Lisbon.
